Standards at Oulton College
ADMISSION
An in-person or over-the-phone meeting with an Admissions Representative of the College is necessary for admission into any program. The purpose of the meeting is to determine the applicant’s qualifications and to ensure the candidate has a thorough understanding of the course for which admission is being considered. While qualifications are important, this meeting is of special value to both the applicant and the College, concerning a final decision on admission to a program at Oulton College.
Applicants must be either a high school graduate or equivalent (GED or Adult Education Diploma); however, a positive attitude has weight in consideration for admission to the College. Please see program specific requirements as listed herein. Click here for more information.
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT
A student must maintain a minimum mark of 65% - 75% (depending on the program)
in each module in order to graduate. All administration, legal, and medical programs have predetermined standards in keyboarding speeds and/or dicta-typing that must be achieved in order to constitute a passing average along with academic standings as noted above. The particulars of these standards will be outlined during the meeting and on orientation day. To achieve an honour’s standing, the student must have an overall grade average of 85% and be within school guidelines regarding attendance.
Work Preparedness
- Punctuality, attendance and on-time performance are very important in obtaining employment and are emphasized at the College. Unexcused tardiness or missing deadlines can be a cause for asking a student to withdraw from the College. Reports will be sent to agencies for those attending under sponsorship programs.
- It is a school policy that while attending classes only business casual attire is accepted . Any mode of clothing deemed unacceptable in a business office environment is not permitted. Students will be permitted to “dress down” on scheduled “Jeans Days.”
- Academic and professional integrity are enforced
Students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner appropriate to the workforce. This reflects favourably upon themselves and the College.
